Today is the opening and dedication of LandWave in the South End. LandWave is a public piece of artwork that commutates the land that was once the Shawmut Peninsula. During the 19th century, the peninsula and surrounding marsh land was filled in to form the city of Boston as we know it today.
Split in half, LandWave is part shimmering blue tiles when viewed from one side and part garden when viewed from the other side. The design aims to depict the history of Boston making land out of sea.
LandWave is part of the Neck Art Project, an art initiative created by residents and organizations in the South End of Boston. LandWave was designed by the Gillis-Simth/Kilkelly/Cormier artist team. The team is led by landscape architect Shauna Gillies-Smith, principal of ground.
