Hydroseed

Legible concept with two distinct zones, the three habitation modules clustered around the more generous central social globe. Greater thought could have been given to transportation and modular construction, coupled with a great deal of digging. However the HydroSeed concept is compelling, using our own natural biological systems to create and sustain life on an inhospitable planet.

Membranes and Modularity

A geometric exercise on rethinking the construction utilizing a stacking curved plate that can then be assembled into a module which in turn can be stacked into an urban block. It would have been interesting to take this a stage further and think through how a range of different sizes and geometries of block could be made out of one or two standard panels.

Aether City

Besides describing a spatial and organizational model, this entry investigates on the new proposed lifestyle and departs from traditional spatial models and tries to find continuity between different activities planned on the inside. The double skin envelop negotiates between the conditions of outside and inside, and integrates different functional modules. Further, the aspiration on creating a visionary spatial environment was developed in line with the technical potentials of the fluid envelop.

Cybernetic Serendipity

The iconography is a direct extension of British and Japanese mega-city concepts published in the 1960-70s; the relationship of form to program is utterly vague and mystical. In addition, the scale is compressed compared to the source, so the actual human environment is more like a habitrail than a habitat. It is unclear what purpose is served by raising the city above the lunar surface, nor how this is constructed. The consideration of urban view from inside, and of the need for dense farming, is commendable.

Manta Research Base

The notion of an itinerant research base is reasonable. However, the indicated physics of power, levitation, and propulsion is pure science fiction.
